Joanna Ampil to make Tokyo debut via ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’

MANILA – Theater star Joanna Ampil is set to perform in Tokyo, Japan for the first time later this year.

Ampil will reprise her role as Mary Magdalene in “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Tokyu Theatre Orb from October 11 to 14.

Joining her are Declan Bennett as Jesus Christ, Ramin Karimloo as Judas Iscariot, and Telly Leung as Peter, to name a few.

“I’m thrilled to be playing Mary Magdalene once again after opening it in the West End many years ago, and to have my debut in Tokyo in another Andrew Lloyd Webber masterpiece,” Ampil said in an Instagram post on Monday.

Ampil has appeared in West End productions such as “Miss Saigon,” “Les Miserables,” and “Cats.”

She is also part of the upcoming iWant series “Don’t Call Me Tita” along with Angelica Panganiban, Cherry Pie Picache, Agot Isidro, Mylene Dizon, Cherie Gil, and Ice Seguerra.
