MANILA -- The first hostel facility in Tacloban has ceased operations amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Yellow Doors Hostel (YDH) made the announcement in a Facebook post on Tuesday, saying their "story has come to an end."
"Many great stories come from unexpected origins. Ours began with a typhoon. A space was built to bring a community together during a time of grief. We welcomed the locals, the volunteers, the artists, the activists, the storytellers, the Wonderwall-loathing backpackers, and the rooftop dwellers who saw nights turn into mornings," it said.
"Six years later, we find that our story ends here, with a pandemic and with a community healing by being apart. The irony in these bookends is not lost on us," YDH added as it thanked all those who have called the hostel their home.
Many loyal customers recalled their experience at YDH as they commented on the Facebook post, thanking the hostel's team for their service.
YDH first closed its hostel and rooftop bar "until further notice" back in March, following quarantines imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
