MANILA -- Save the Children Philippines has officially welcomed Ria Atayde as its newest ambassador.
The actress now joins Miss World Philippines 2018 Katarina Rodriguez and child star Xia Vigor in promoting children's rights on education and health amid the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We warmly welcome Ria Atayde as our new ambassador for Save the Children Philippines. She has shown sincerity, stayed low-profile, and shares our values and mission in helping the most deprived and marginalized children," Atty. Alberto Muyot, chief executive officer of Save the Children Philippines, said in a statement released Wednesday.
Atayde, for her part, said: "It is important for celebrities and ambassadors to use their voice and platforms for a greater cause. This role of helping our country’s children gives more meaning to my life."
According to Save the Children Philippines, Atayde raised funds for frontliners' protective gear and food, conducted feeding programs for children in poor families, and provided medical assistance to the sick at the onset of the pandemic.
Last week, she joined fellow celebrities in Save with Stories, a fundraising initiative that aims to help children from low-income families and those with disabilities by giving them access to alternative learning tools.
In 2016, Atayde volunteered with Save the Children Philippines in raising funds for children dying of hunger and malnutrition in Metro Manila and Southern Mindanao.
