MANILA -- Vickie Rushton turned emotional on Tuesday as she recalled being bashed during the question and answer round of last year's Binibining Pilipinas pageant.
The former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate, who is returning as a Bb. Pilipinas candidate this year, appeared in an episode of the web series "Queentuhan" featuring fellow beauty queens Pia Wurtzbach, Carla Lizardo, and Bianca Guidotti.
"What happened last year is something I don't want any girl or anyone to experience or feel," Rushton said, as she was asked about the time she was distracted by an audience member during the Q&A round of Bb. Pilipinas 2019, which caused her to finish in the Top 15.
"After noon, paglabas ko, parang hindi ako natatakot lumabas kasi alam ko ang nangyari. Pero kung kailan na-interview ako na na-misinterpret, parang sabi ko, 'Hala, sige tatahimik na lang ako,'" she continued.
"Pero parang sabi ko na lang sa isip ko, 'Kung tatahimik lang ako, paano 'yung ibang girls?' As an audience, dapat may etiquette na sinusunod. Kasi for 10 years, nagja-judge din ako [ng pageants]. Parang 'pag naka-witness ako ng ganun, I'll feel bad for the girls. So 'yung nangyari last year, nangyari sa akin. Kaya sabi ko, 'Hala, masakit siya.'"
Rushton went on to share that she waited for her family to go to bed before crying in silence over the incident.
"Pagbalik ko ng hotel, alam mo 'yung gusto kong umiyak pero nandoon 'yung kapatid ko. Eh lalo na siya, 'pag nakikita akong umiiyak, as in hagulgol levels siya," she explained as she wiped away her tears. "Hinintay ko muna silang matulog lahat at umiyak ako nang tahimik."

A Mutya ng Pilipinas 2011 titleholder, Rushton is aiming to get a Bb. Pilipinas crown on her third attempt, after runner-up and Top 15 finishes in the past two years.
But that will have to wait for now as the Bb. Pilipinas 2020 pageant has been postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
