MANILA -- Pia Wurtzbach on Tuesday showed her support for Binibining Pilipinas 2020 candidate Vickie Rushton, saying she sees her "old self" in her.
Rushton appeared as a guest on "Queentuhan," an online show hosted by Wurtzbach and her fellow beauty queens Carla Lizardo and Bianca Guidotti.
The former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate is hoping that she will finally get a Bb. Pilipinas crown on her third try, just like Wurtzbach back in 2015.
"Try lang nang try... Mas meaningful 'yung pagkapanalo mo pagkatapos ng failure. Hindi naman dapat lahat madali lang," said Rushton, who won Mutya ng Pilipinas in 2011.
This prompted Wurtzbach to say how she is fond of Rushton: "Sobrang natutuwa ako kay Vickie... People should see this side of you more. Relatable ka, sobra."
"I see myself, my old self in you... Tama lahat ng mga sinabi mo and I think you're on the right track based on the kind of lessons I've heard you talk about," she added.
Toward the end of their online show, Wurtzbach said: "I really feel like this girl deserves it. She deserves it. She's been through a lot."
Rushton first joined Bb. Pilipinas in 2018 and finished first runner-up to a strong batch of candidates led by Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.
She returned to the pageant in 2019 widely tipped to take home the coveted Miss Universe Philippines crown, but ended up finishing in the Top 15 after her poor performance at the question and answer round.
This year, Rushton is eyeing to represent the Philippines in Miss International by joining Bb. Pilipinas for the third time. A separate organization now holds the Miss Universe Philippines franchise.
Both the Bb. Pilipinas and Miss Universe Philippines pageants have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
