MANILA—Outgoing senator Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan received a message from his daughter, musician Kai Honasan-Del Rio, who described her father's role as lawmaker and family man as "legendary."

Honasan-Del Rio took to social media to share her thoughts on her father's "graduation" from the Senate, a post accompanied by a photo of the two during her wedding last year.

"My dad said bye to his job of 25 years today. I was 5 going on 6 when he was first elected, I’m 30 now," she posted on Instagram Tuesday.

My dad said bye to his job of 25 years today. I was 5 going on 6 when he was first elected, I’m 30 now. That was also when I first met him. My entire life you’ve been somebody, and now you’re settling in to something a *little* less public. I can’t even begin to understand what’s going through your mind but allow me to provide a few words of comfort: . I think a man tends to wonder, at your age, what his legacy has been. Your legacy was never your job, papa. It was always us 🖤 Mama, the kuyas, ates, Kookie, Ian, Eco, me, the babies. A bunch of non-power hungry hippies who like to sing, paint or roll around in the ocean to make people smile. Show me another man with a job like yours who built a family like ours. (Nada, right?) Because like what you said, the measure of a man is his family — and you did alright there. . Super proud of you, I don’t think I said it enough in those 25 years because I was busy being angry. You did good. You did enough. You are already legendary. You will be remembered 🖤 OK NOW DON’T BE SAD uwi na si mama bukas. . Ty for this 📸 @atlas.studiosph

She also assured her father that he did a great job, both as a politician and as a father.

"Your legacy was never your job, papa. It was always us," Honasan-Del Rio said.

She also expressed how proud she is of her father.

"Super proud of you, I don’t think I said it enough in those 25 years because I was busy being angry. You did good," she said.

"You did enough. You are already legendary. You will be remembered."

Honasan replied by saying: "You are truly not only our baby but my biggest, most audible (in a good way), most rabid (in a nice way), most diehard (in a cuddly way) fan. And that’s why I, we love you so much.

"This is also why in a world with so much hatred, hypocrisy and deeper forms of violence, we and all we hold dearest, are invincible."

A military man, Honasan advocated for the welfare of state troops, and environmental and agrarian reforms in the Senate.

He also joined the 2016 vice-presidential race as the running mate of former Vice President Jejomar Binay.

In November 2018, Duterte nominated Honasan to become secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, which has yet to be approved by Commission on Appointments (CA).

Honasan is the chairman of the Senate committees on national defense and security, and on peace unification, and reconciliation.

He is among the senators whose 6-year term will end on June 30.
