MANILA – Pia Wurtzbach is confident that the next winner of Binibining Pilpinas would represent the Philippines well on the Miss Universe stage.
Wurtzbach opened up about her thoughts regarding this year’s contestants in an interview with ABS-CBN News’ Mario Dumaual at the sidelines of the Binibining Pilipinas Charity Gala on Tuesday night.
“Ang hirap. Mahirap talaga [mamili]. Excited din ako sa Binibini na ‘to because I feel like everybody is really prepared. Iba na from five years ago. Ibang iba na,” she said.
Does she think all the girls are already trained enough to compete internationally?
“'Yung mga girls ngayon, kung ngayon sila mananalo, puwede na sila isaban sa Miss Universe tomorrow. Prepared talaga,” she said.
“Parang hindi na nga uso ngayon 'yung transformation. 'Yung kapag nanalo sa Binibini tapos nagta-transform kapag sumabak na sa Miss Universe. Pero exciting talaga,” she added.
Wurtzbach joined Binibining Pilipinas thrice before getting the chance to represent the country on the Miss Universe stage.
In 2015, she became the third Filipina to bag the Miss Universe crown, joining Gloria Diaz and Margie Moran, who won in 1969 and 1973, respectively.
After Wurtzbach, Catriona Gray also made history in 2018 by bringing home the fourth crown for the Philippines.
It remains to be seen whether Gray’s successor, who will be named at the Binibining Pilipinas coronation night on Sunday, will also clinch the title and score a back-to-back victory for the Philippines.
