MANILA – Amid the 2019 midterm elections, Kelsey Merritt is embarking on a different kind of campaign.
The Filipino-American model is hoping to win the Rookie of the Year title in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.
Merritt is part of the magazine’s “rookie class” along with Camille Kostek, Tara Lynn, Jasmine Sanders, Haley Kalil, Halima Aden, Winnie Harlow, and Olivia Brower.
The Rookie of the Year award will be chosen “based on a combination of popular vote, editor's choice, and an evaluation of proven history as an SI Swimsuit brand ambassador.”
Voting can be done on the Sports Illustrated website until May 17, with the winner to be announced shortly after.
“Vote for me as [Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s] Rookie of the Year 2019! You can vote as many times as you want!” Merritt told her 1.4 million Instagram followers.
In another post, she wrote: “We have until May 17th to vote for Rookie of the Year! Need all of your help! Have you voted yet?”
Merritt is known to many as the first Filipina to join the coveted Victoria’s Secret fashion show.
She first announced her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit stint in February 2019.
