Thinking of new and creative ways to cook chicken meat? Here are some inspirations from villagers in Bulakan, Bulacan.
Every May 3, four villages of Bulakan, Bulacan hold a grand fiesta in honor of their Mahal na Poong Santo Cristo, or what they dubbed as their own version of a Little Quiapo. Alas, the annual grand event could not be staged this year due to the pandemic and the still ongoing enhanced community quarantine.
Still, locals from Barangay Maysantol got to celebrate from their own homes, thanks to an engaging competition.
“Sabong sa Kusina” invites villagers to create the best chicken dish ever. Each household can participate using one kilo of chicken meat donated by a local official.
“Nagkaroon kami ng isang COVID-19 case dito pero okay na, gumaling na. Nag-isip lang ako ng ibang way na maging masaya na hindi lalabas ng bahay. Pinili ko chicken kasi medyo mura. (We’ve had one COVID-19 case here but that person is okay and fully recovered now. I thought of (this contest) as a way to celebrate without leaving the house. I chose (to give out) chicken meat because this is less expensive.),” Kagawad Marvin Garcia explained.
Plus points were given for creative plating and presentation.
