Marvel Comics on Friday released a sneak peek of its upcoming comic featuring the introduction of Wave, an all-new original female superhero from the Philippines.

The opening panel of the first issue of "The War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas" sees Wave investigating an anomaly out in the ocean using her powers over water. "There's something wrong," she says.

She hurries towards the source of the disturbance, which is about "5,000 miles" outside Philippine waters, it was pointed out. She is confronted there by Aero, a Chinese superhero who controls air.

"Wave, your territory's the Philippine Sea. What are you doing here?" Aero says.

"Who are you to ask, Aero? These aren't Chinese waters. What are you . . ," Wave snaps back before they are interrupted by a jolt in the waters.

The brief, 2-panel exchange appears to echo real-world events involving the two countries, which are currently embroiled in a territorial dispute.
