MAYNILA – Matapos ang halos dalawang dekada, muling ipinagdiwang ng makasaysayang Manila Hotel ang Flores de Mayo, isang tradisyon na nagbibigay-pugay sa Birheng Maria.

Tatlumpung sagala o binibining may suot na espesyal na damit ang pumarada sa palibot ng 107-taong Manila Hotel nitong Miyerkoles kasama ang kani-kanilang mga escort.

Kabilang sa mga sagala ang ilang mga beauty queen at model, pati na rin ang mga Kapamilya host na sina Gretchen Ho at Tina Marasigan.

Ang kanilang mga mala-reynang kasuotan ay galing sa Designers Circle Philippines kung saan kasama ang mga kilalang pangalan tulad nina Renee Salud at Fanny Serrano.

Ayon sa presidente ng Manila Hotel na si Atty. Joey Lina, sinimulan nila ang pagdiriwang ng Flores de Mayo noong 1979 ngunit natigil ito noong taong 2000.

“Bubuhayin natin itong Flores de Mayo dito sa Manila Hotel taon-taon sapagkat napakaganda ng tradisyong ito,” aniya.

Nang matanong kung bakit natigil ang selebrasyon ng Flores de Mayo noon, sagot ni Lina: “Mayroong mga insidente na nangyari noon sa mga parada, so medyo na-discourage ang iba.”

Dagdag niya, mas sinigurado nila ngayon na magiging maayos ang prusisyon upang mas maraming maengganyo na sumali rito.

Nais din ni Lina na ilipat ang petsa ng selebrasyon ng Flores de Mayo sa Manila Hotel upang hindi ito sumabay sa Araw ng Paggawa o Labor Day tuwing Mayo 1.
