MANILA – Binibining Pilipinas candidate no. 13 Sirene Sutton, who was an early favorite to win the national pageant, made noise on social media after she failed to give an answer during the competition’s question-and-answer portion.
During the segment, Sutton was asked if she thinks it is right for parents to demand support from their children in exchange for raising them.
Sutton initially answered “no” only to ask the judge to repeat the question.
For her second try to give a winning answer, Sutton changed her mind and said yes. She, however, took it back immediately and said “no” again without explaining her answer until her time was up.
Speaking exclusively to ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual after the pageant, Sutton admitted that her nerves got the best of her.
“Oo kinabahan ako. I was so nervous and I didn’t understand the question. I didn’t understand it properly, maybe it was my nerves and the pressure,” she said.
Despite what happened, Sutton remains thankful to everyone who supported her throughout her Binibining Pilipinas journey.
“I just want to thank everyone who supported me. My friends, family and supporters. Probably, it wasn’t my night, but who knows?” she said.
Asked if she will join the competition again, Sutton briefly said: “We’ll see.”
