MANILA — Children who are too young to have an understanding of the coronavirus pandemic may have one immediate question in mind: Why can't they go out?

And then there are other concerns like not going to school, or being disallowed to play with friends — situations that are new and sudden, and not just for young ones.

Familiar with the challenge of explaining the pandemic to kids, actress Isabelle Daza and her team of artists and researchers came up with an animated story book that discusses the crisis.

Daza, mom to 2-year-old Baltie, released the video on her Instagram page on Monday, with English and Filipino versions.

In simple terms, Daza, who holds a degree in early childhood education, tells a story about Tralala the Tiger and his friends — an elephant, giraffe, and fox — whose school and play routine are disrupted by the pandemic.

Each character is shown dealing with the implications of COVID-19, with their respective parents helping explain the disease, the importance of hygiene, and the reason behind physical distancing.
