MANILA – Anthony Bourdain fans, rejoice! The TV personality and chef is set to return to the Philippines this year.
Bourdain will be one of the speakers in this year’s World Street Food Congress (WSFC) to be held at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in Pasay City from May 31 to June 4.
He will “provide the latest update on the highly anticipated Bourdain Market in New York,” according to the event’s organizers.
WSFC and Makansutra founder KF Seetoh have been tapped as advisor and consultant for Bourdain’s newest venture.
It was in December 2016 when Bourdain last visited the Philippines for his show, “Parts Unknown.”
With the theme “Re-Imagine Possibilities,” this year’s WSFC will place more focus on Filipino heritage dishes such as Lamb Monggo in Davao, said to be a favorite of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Chef Sau del Rosario is expected to make his debut as the event’s team captain and will also be one of the dialogue speakers, joining industry experts not only from the country but also from the United States, Indonesia, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
Other activities lined up for WSFC 2017 include cooking demonstrations and a “pitch box hackathon” where delegates are given 90 minutes to pitch their visions and concepts.
Of course, there will be food stalls featuring old favorites and new items, with dishes coming from the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, US, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, China, Mexico and Germany.
