MANILA — Over the years, several historic churches have served as meaningful backdrops, if not a central setting, of Kapamilya TV shows, giving viewers a glimpse into buildings that otherwise require great distances to reach.

In observation of Holy Week, here’s a look at churches as featured in an ABS-CBN series, along with a scene that uses it as the setting:

1. WALANG HANGGAN

San Agustin Church, Intramuros Manila

The oldest church in the country was the wedding venue of the main characters Daniel and Katerina, portrayed by Coco Martin and Julia Montes, respectively.

2. MAY BUKAS PA

San Guillermo Parish Church, Bacolor, Pampanga

Originally constructed in 1576, the church became the home of Santino (Zaijan Jaranilla), an orphan boy adopted by priests and who forms a relationship with “Bro,” or Jesus.

3. KAMPANERANG KUBA

San Bartolome Apostol Parish Church, Nagcarlan, Laguna

The historic church was the home of Imang (Anne Curtis), a hunchback bell-ringer who magically transforms into a beautiful woman.

4. JUAN DELA CRUZ

Saint Peter of Alcantara Parish Church, Pakil, Laguna

Completed in 1767, the church was the home of the titular character — a half-man, half-aswang who must choose good in spite of his partly evil nature.

5. TUBIG AT LANGIS

Divine Mercy Parish

This relatively new church was the wedding venue of Natoy and Irene, portrayed by Zanjoe Marudo and Cristine Reyes, respectively.

6. PANGAKO SA ‘YO

Santuario de San Vicente de Paul, Quezon City

Relatively new, this church became the venue of the nuptials of Amor and Eduardo, portrayed by Jodi Sta. Maria and Ian Veneracion, respectively.

7. BE CAREFUL WITH MY HEART

Taal Basilica, Batangas

This historic site saw the wedding of Maya and Richard, portrayed by Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap, respectively.
