PANGLAO, Bohol -- Planning to visit Bohol this July?
Tourists are in for a month-long celebration as the province hosts the annual Sandugo Festival.
The festival, which commemorates a blood compact or “sandugo” between an early Bohol chieftain Datu Sikatuna, and Spanish conqueror Miguel Lopez de Legazpi in 1565, will mark its 30th year this July.
“Sandugo is a precursor, an early seed of Boholano culture,” said Lucas Nunag, chair of the Bohol provincial tourism council.
“This year’s festival will be very significant because it’s the 30th. It’s a milestone,” he added.
Among the activities that the local government has planned are the following:
July 1- Mass and commemorative program
July 9- Trade fair
July 17-18- Agricultural fair
July 19- Flower and Garden Show
July 20- Song festival
July 21- Ms. Bohol 2018 Pageant Night
July 28- Kuradang Street Dancing
Bohol provincial administrator Alfonso Damalerio II added that the local government is planning to host a street party at night to allow revelers to experience the province’s hospitality.
This year’s month-long festival also coincides with the Tigum Bol-Anon Tibuak Kalibutan, a gathering of Boholanos all over the world which is held every 3 years.
Apart from the gathering, the province will also recognize 10 outstanding Boholanos around the world on July 22, Bohol Day.
