MANILA – Many Filipinos travel because they want to share interesting content on social media, according to a survey.
SweetEscape, an Indonesia-based holiday photography service that was launched in the Philippines last year, recently conducted a survey on 2,000 Filipinos to know more about their travel preferences.
Seventy-seven percent of respondents said they “prioritize visiting Instagram-worthy destinations,” while six out of every ten Filipinos travel at least twice a year for leisure.
“Many consider Siargao as the go-to local destination for holidays, while Hong Kong and Seoul still rank high on the list of foreign Asian countries to visit during holidays, mainly because it offers considerably affordable entertainment, great food, and tourist spots,” read a post about the survey results on the SweetEscape website.
“As for Western destinations, New York and Paris are also among the most popular cities for many Filipinos.”
SweetEscape also compiled a list of up and coming popular destinations for Filipinos, which include Cape Town in South Africa, Cappadocia in Turkey, Maldives, Tuscany and Florence in Italy, and Shanghai in China.
A January 2019 report by the creative agency We Are Social and social media management platform Hootsuite showed that Filipinos spend the most time on the Internet and social media sites.
According to the study, Filipinos spend an average of ten hours and two minutes online and over four hours on social media daily.
