MANILA — “Let’s just work.”
This was what Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto wrote as he shared a photo on Instagram of him buckling down at his office Wednesday night to sign papers while his “friend panda” chomped on a piece of bamboo beside him, a few hours after he was questioned by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over alleged violations of quarantine protocols.
The NBI wantsto grill Sotto over allegedly going against the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act for allowing tricycle drivers to operate in Pasig, and he was given a few days to dispute the claim.
He said that he’ll be doing so, but it was apparent that it has added to the mountain of work that he already needed to finish —and perhaps why he again turned to his “friend panda” for some stress relief.
It was sometime last week when he first introduced their office’s “panda” —it’s just a stationary picture of the animal that they paste over photos of his team working— as a way to lighten the mood for his constituents who are concerned over the coronavirus situation.
It was a welcome break from the seriousness of his other social media posts, mainly about the measures his office has taken to address the needs of frontliners and those stuck inside their homes.
His newest panda post has allowed his followers to reassure him and his team of their support.
Sotto's name topped conversations on Twitter on Wednesday, with many —including celebrities and senators— defending him from the allegations.
