MANILA – A day after Filipino netizens slammed Lonely Planet for mistakenly crediting the Chinese for building the Banaue Rice Terraces, the travel guide took to Twitter to address the issue.
Replying to one of the posts that pointed out the blunder, Lonely Planet said it will “take a further look” into the matter.
“Thank you for flagging this, we’ll share this with our editors who’ll take a further look into it. We will share updates/action points on this thread,” Lonely Planet said.
In the 0:50 mark of the video which has since been deleted on Facebook, Lonely Planet said the Banaue Rice Terraces were “first built around 2,000 years ago by the Chinese.”
Commenters were quick to correct Lonely Planet, with some even putting encyclopedia links about the natural cultural treasure in Ifugao province.
As of posting, Lonely Planet has yet to update the public about the issue.
