No Philippine airport in Skytrax's World's Best Airports list

MANILA — No Philippine airport made it to the World's Best Airport 2019 list by Skytrax, which is based on a global survey in 2017-2018 of international air travellers. 

Changi Airport of Singapore was voted by travellers as the world's best airport for the 7th consecutive year. 

Also included in the top 10, dominated by hubs in Asia, are the following airports: 

  1. Singapore Changi
  2. Tokyo Haneda
  3. Seoul Incheon
  4. Doha Hamad
  5. Hong Kong
  6. Centrair Nagoya
  7. Munich
  8. London Heathrow
  9. Tokyo Narita
  10. Zurich

Other citations this year are: 

  • World's Cleanest Airports: Tokyo Haneda
  • World's Best Airport Hotels: Crowne Plaza Changi
  • World's Best Airport Staff: Tokyo Narita
  • World's Best Regional Airports: Centrair Nagoya
  • World's Best Airport Terminals: London Heathrow - T5
  • World's Best Transit Airports: Seoul Incheon

The top 100 ranking by Skytrax is regarded as "a quality benchmark for the world airport industry, assessing customer service and facilities across over 550 airports."

According to Skytrax, the latest list is based on a customer satisfaction survey from August 2017 to February 2018 by more than 100 nationalities. 

METHODOLOGY

Travellers were given questionnaires and asked to make "personal choices as to which airport they consider to be the best." 

According to Skytrax, the "customer survey is not restricted to member airports," and "any airport in the world can be nominated in the survey." 

Travellers were asked to base their assessment on an airport's "check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate," among others.

Skytrax said, among the topics covered in the survey were: 

  • Getting to and from the Airport, Ease of Access
  • Public transport options, efficiency and prices
  • Taxi availability and prices
  • Availability of luggage trolleys (airside & landside)
  • Terminal comfort, ambience and design
     
  • Terminal cleanliness, floors, seating and public areas
  • Seating facilities throughout terminals
  • Immigration - queuing times / system
  • Immigration - staff attitude
  • Waiting times at Security screening
     
  • Courtesy and Attitude of Security staff
  • Check-In facilities, queuing systems and seating
  • Wayfinding and Terminal signage
  • Clarity of Boarding Calls and Airport PA's
  • Flight Info Screens - clarity / quality of information
     
  • Friendliness of Airport Staff
  • Language skills for Airport Staff
  • Ease of Transit through Airport
  • Location of Airline Lounges

Skytrax said "survey entries are monitored, and any suspect or duplicate entries are deleted."

In the 2017 awards, there were 13.82 million airport survey questionnaires completed by 105 nationalities. 

Established in 1989, London-based Skytrax does research on the air transport industry. It works with airlines and airports worldwide. 
It says it is "dedicated to improving the Customer Experience for airlines and airports across the world."
