A restaurant in Makati City now holds the distinction of being considered as the best place to eat in the Philippines, according to an annual list that takes in votes from hundreds of food experts across Asia.
Jordy Navarra's Toyo Eatery is the only Filipino restaurant to have made it in the prestigious list of the 50 Best Restaurants in Asia, it was announced at a ceremony in Macau this Tuesday.
It is number 43 in the list, which many respect as an alternative to other rating systems like Michelin stars. The awards show for it is considered as the "Oscars" of the restaurant world.
Toyo Eatery has been operating since 2016. It's the brainchild of Navarra, who trained at famous restaurants around the world, namely in UK's The Fat Duck and Hong Kong's Bo Innovation.
It was selected by the same award-giving body as the one of the restaurants to watch last year.
Among its best dish, posted on the 50 Best Restaurants in Asia website, is the 'three-cut pork BBQ silog' --a modern version of a popular street food, made using three cuts of pork cooked over charcoal and finished in pork bone broth."
It also listed the "dessert duo of charred cassava cake and chocolate bonbons filled with fish-sauce salted caramel."
Topping the list this year is Singapore's Odette. You can check out the fill list here.
