MANILA – Toyo Eatery in Makati City is the recipient of this year’s Miele One to Watch Award by the organizers of the prestigious Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
Opened in 2016, Toyo Eatery is a Filipino restaurant by chef Jordy Navarra, who trained at Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck in the United Kingdom and worked at Bo Innovation in Hong Kong.
Crowd favorites here include the Three-cut Pork Barbecue, which uses three cuts of pork, and Grilled Belly and Loin of Bangus.
“The dream has always been to make food that represents who we are and where we’re from,” Navarra told fellow Filipino Cheryl Tiu in an interview published on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants website.
“We wanted to make food and an experience we can be proud of, and to be the best we could be at representing who we are,” he added. “There’s still so much to learn and to do, and we are happy just trying to get a bit better at it every day.”
