MANILA -- Luxury single malt whisky Macallan recently held a special party for whisky enthusiasts to reintroduce its special Macallan Double Cask 12 Year Old at Salon De Ning of the Peninsula Manila.

While it has been around since 2016, the Macalllan Double Cask 12 Year Old is the latest in a trilogy collection of the same age statement which includes the classic Macallan Sherry Oak 12 Year Old, and The Macallan Triple Cask Matured 12 Year Old.

What makes the Macallan Double Cask 12 Year Old special is that American and European sherry casks were used in the aging process, each wood imparting special characteristics. The American oak contributed light flavors of hazelnut, vanilla, and citrus, while the European oak brought heavier tannic notes.

Macallan brand advocate Hans Eckstein strongly believes this will appeal to the Filipino whisky drinker’s palate.

“Here in the Philippines, we love sweets flavors. Sherry definitely has that beautiful sweet nose on it. The sweetness of the whisky, berries, beautiful floral flavors, fruity flavors coming from this are really what will appeal to drinkers,” he said.

Eckstein raved about the sweet nose of the whisky with candied orange, vanilla and custard. The sweetness continues on as the whisky hits the tongue with notes of raisins and spice. The finish is very balanced but does lean toward the dry side.
