MANILA – A Filipino restaurant in Seattle is one of the winners of this year’s “America’s Classics” award by the prestigious James Beard Foundation.

Located at Pike Place Market, the carinderia-style Oriental Mart serves Filipino dishes such as longganisa, pancit, adobo, and sinigang made with salmon from neighboring fish vendors.

James Beard Foundation released a video feature of Oriental Mart on Wednesday as it congratulated the restaurant for making the cut.

Only four restaurants have so far been announced as winners of the “America’s Classics” award, the others being El Taco de Mexico in Denver; Vera’s Bar-B-Que in Brownsville, Texas; and Lassis Inn in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The rest are set to be revealed within the week.

The “America’s Classics” award is usually given to mom and pop businesses that “have timeless appeal and are beloved regionally for quality food that reflects the character of its community.”
