MANILA – The new Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) organization has introduced the first batch of candidates of its namesake pageant.

A total of 52 women across the country will compete for the Miss Universe Philippines crown at the Mall of Asia Arena on May 3.

This year’s batch – a mix of newcomers and pageant veterans – was presented to members of the media at the Manila Hotel on Friday.

Familiar names include volleyball star Michele Gumabao, who competed in Miss Globe 2018 after winning one of the titles in Binibining Pilipinas, the former holder of the Miss Universe franchise in the country.

Other Bb. Pilipinas alumnae include Sandra Lemonon (2018, Top 15 finalist), Maria Isabela Galeria (2019, Top 15 finalist), Apriel Smith (2016 contestant), and Riana Pangindian (2016, Top 15 finalist).

Also part of the list is Alaiza Malinao, a contestant of “Asia’s Next Top Model” season 4; Pauline Amelinckx, who won the Mutya ng Pilipinas Global Beauty Queen title in 2018; and Bella Ysmael, a runner-up in Century Tuna Superbods Ageless 2018 and niece of former Miss Universe Margie Moran.

Ahtisa Manalo, who finished first runner-up in Miss International in 2018, also applied for MUP but backed out of the race to prioritize her health.
