After receiving praise from his idol, "blind balladeer" Carl Malone Montecido hopes to get a chance to sing with Sam Smith.
Montecido, whose cover of Smith's "Too Good at Goodbyes" went viral, said he didn't expect the singer to notice him.
"Actually naluha ako eh, nung marami nag-PM sa akin na Carl, alam mo ba si Sam Smith nag-react doon sa version mo ng Too Good at Goodbyes. So sabi ko, ha, sino ba ako, I'm just a simple singer lang naman, aspiring singer dito sa Philippines pero napansin ako ng isang kilalang tao at hindi lang sila kilala eh, talagang famous talaga siya sa buong mundo," he said.
(Actually I got teary-eyed when people told me that Sam Smith reacted to my version of Too Good at Goodbyes. I said, who am I, I am just a simple singer, an aspiring singer from the Philippines but a famous person noticed me.)
Montecido also thanked Smith, adding he hopes to get to sing with him in the future.
"To Sam Smith, thank you so much for your reaction I do appreciate that and I would like to say thank you also for giving me an inspiration to do or to work hard in my music career and I hope to see you soon and I wish we can duet," he said.
The Grammy winner took to his Twitter to express his admiration for Montecido.
Montecido is best known for his stint in the first season of the "Tawag ng Tanghalan" reboot on "It's Showtime" back in 2016. He managed to reach the finals and finish in a highly-respectable fifth place.
He was referred to as the "Blind Balladeer," referring to his condition and astounding voice, which many were reminded of when a video of him performing inside a appliance store went viral this past week.
The video was taken by Facebook user Trixie Madison who shared her admiration for Montecido's voice by uploading it on the social media site. It has now garnered more than 7.7 million views.
