MANILA -- The critically acclaimed game “Shadow of the Colossus” will be released for the PlayStation 4 on Tuesday.
First released for the PlayStation 2, the video game was lauded for its markedly different tone and gameplay from the rest of its contemporaries. Instead of loud, complicated gameplay, “Shadow Of The Colossus” was slow, quiet, and at times, almost meditative.
The game focused on a single character exploring a vast landscape to battle monsters as tall as mountains in order to bring his loved one back to life. These setpiece battles are a mixture of puzzle and action platforming as players have to figure out the Colossi’s weak points, how to expose them, and eventually defeat them.
“Shadow of the Colossus” had been redone for the last-gen console, PlayStation 3.
But for the PlayStation 4, developers Bluepoint Games and Japan Studio opted to start from the ground up, instead of just revamping old assets to take full advantage of the console’s power adding higher fidelity imagery.
PS4 Pro owners will be able to experience the game in 4K and will have more detailed graphics and smoother frame rates.
This remaster is sure to get long-time fans to revisit the land of the colossi while introducing the game to a new generation of gamers.
The Playstation 4 remaster of “Shadow of the Colossus” drops into game retailers and the Playstation store with an SRP of P1,799.
