"Dream come true."
This is how Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach described the experience of wearing the iconic Miss Universe crown created by jeweler Mikimoto.
Founded in 1899, K. Mikimoto & Co., Ltd. was the official jeweler of the Miss Universe from 2002 to 2007. Its founder, Kokichi Mikimoto, is considered the first person to culture pearls.
The company is known for its exquisite designs, using mostly pearls and other precious stones.
Aside from creating the Miss Universe crown, Mikimoto was also the official jeweler of Miss USA from 2003 to 2008, and Miss Teen USA from 2002 to 2008.
The Mikimoto crown was first worn by Miss Universe 2002 Oxana Fedorova. She later passed it on to Panama's Justine Pasek when she was dethroned.
Miss Japan Riyo Mori was the last to wear the Mikimoto the crown in 2007, when she won the title of Miss Universe.
The design of the Mikimoto crown depicts that of a phoenix, which signifies power, status and beauty.
