MANILA – Only two Philippine schools made it to this year’s Emerging Economies University Rankings of data provider Times Higher Education (THE).
University of the Philippines ranked 87th in the list, which only includes institutions in countries classified as “advanced emerging,” “secondary emerging,” or “frontier.”
De La Salle University, meanwhile, made it to the 251-300 bracket.
Occupying the Top 4 spots are institutions from China – Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, and University of Science and Technology in China.
The rest of the Top 10 include Russia’s Lomonosov Moscow State University; China’s Fudan University, Nanjing University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University; South Africa’s University of Cape Town; and National Taiwan University.

On its website, THE said it uses the same performance indicators as its world university rankings to judge institutions, but these are “recalibrated to reflect the development priorities of universities in emerging economies.”
