Cropped out? Megan hits back at ‘malicious’ accusation over ‘queens’ photo

MANILA—A recently released photo of 3 Filipina “queens” together had pageant fans cheering online, but it appears to have also caused mild intrigue.

A close-up photo – featuring Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, and Miss World 2013 Megan Young – was taken as part of a fashion shoot for Harpers Bazaar Vietnam, which used a full-body shot of the trio for its cover.

Verzosa and Young re-posted the close-up photo on their respective Instagram pages. Young’s post, however, got a comment accusing them and their management camp of purposely leaving out another “queen,” Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Ong.

The comment read, unedited: “Kasama pala diyan sana si Angelia Miss Earth pero inedit out, grabe naman kayong taga Aces and Queens, ayaw masapawan o pantayan man lang, hayok sa kasikatan ang amo niyong si Empire . . . Kakadismaya naman kayo . . .”

Aces and Queens is the talent camp that trained and fielded Verzosa and Wurtzbach in Binibining Pilipinas, and later in Miss International and Miss Universe, respectively; and Young in Miss World Philippines, and later on in the actual Miss World competition.

Ong is from Rodgil Flores’ Kagandahang Flores, considered by pageant pundits to be a rival to Jonas Gaffud’s Aces and Queens.

Responding to the comment on her post, Young confirmed that Ong was indeed part of the shoot “and we did have layouts with her (even with Angela, Miss Global International).

“However,” Young continued, “this is not one of the layouts that we shot with her (Ong) because she had to leave to catch a flight to Iloilo that day.”

Young was referring to Angela Bonilla of Ecuador, the 2015 winner of Miss Global International, whose Instagram posts indicate that the shoot happened as early as September 2017. In her post about the pictorial, she can be seen with Young, Wurtzbach, and Verzosa.

The former Kapamilya star denied that they purposely excluded Ong, pointing out that the “final say” when it comes to layouts and production is with the editorial staff, in this case of Harpers Bazaar Vietnam.

Addressing the individual who commented, Young said: “I think your comment is malicious and for you to think that we or Aces and Queens ‘took her out’ like you said is merely an assumption that you have. Please stop trying to spread rumors as none of this is true.

“She wasn't edited out. She just wasn't there when we shot this layout. Final say is always with the production and the editorial staff at kailangan nilang tapusin yung prepared layouts. Hindi namin gagawin un na hindi mag sama ng iba - the people around us can vouch for that. If anything, nasayangan nga kami kasi hindi kami kumpleto.”

Young concluded: “We're not about kasikatan or whatever superficial notion you are trying to put across. In regards to them not publishing a photo with Angelia, I'm hoping, like you, that one will be posted. But please do not put the blame on us.”

The person behind the comment, replying to Young, apologized and admitted being misled by rumors he had seen online.
