MANILA — Liza Soberano, considered one of local showbiz’s most beautiful faces, has two Miss Universe titlists rooting for her to become a future representative of the Philippines in the popular pageant.

On separate occasions, Filipino winners Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray named Soberano as a possible winning bet in Miss Universe.

Gray mentioned Soberano as recently as December, when she was asked if she sees any local celebrity as worthy of becoming the next Miss Universe Philippines.

At the time, Gray said: “Everyone’s always wanted Liza to join, ‘di ba? She’s very, very beautiful. I feel like she would be wonderful. But I really feel that it needs to be the girl who wants to do it. Even if you have so many people saying, ‘Yes, this is for you! This is your path!’ unless you feel it… It needs to be your own passion, it needs to be your own will.”

Gray’s statement has reached Soberano, who was asked on Thursday for her reaction to getting encouragement, yet again, from another international queen.

“It’s flattering coming from Miss Universe herself. Ate Pia was also very supportive,” Soberano told ABS-CBN News, on the sidelines of a press conference for her upcoming primetime series “Make It With You.”

“I don’t want to say that I’m completely closing the doors, but honestly don’t see it in my career path, because I’m very passionate about acting. Being a beauty queen takes a lot of time. Of course, I’d have to prepare physically, I’d have to prepare my walk, how beauty queens act. It requires a lot of training. I don’t think kaya ko mapalayo sa acting for that long,” she explained.

Soberano is not completely discounting the possibility, however, saying, “You know, we’re humans, we change our minds every now and then.”

Soberano’s long-time partner Enrique Gil, her leading man in “Make It With You,” echoed the sentiment of Gray when asked for his opinion on his girlfriend joining pageantry.

“I would make jokes and tell her, ‘Why don’t you join? You’re still my Miss Universe.’ But if she really doesn’t feel it inside her… Gusto ko, siyempre, genuinely, she really wants it,” he said.
