MANILA -- "Selling out the city where my mom grew up."
This was what Jo Koy, whose hilarious skits air on Netflix, said in a video on Instagram, uploaded after learning that his upcoming stand-up show at the Mall of Asia Arena next week has sold out.
Jo Koy arrived in the Philippines earlier this week and he is set to perform first at The Theatre at Solaire this Saturday, before going to Cebu on January 14 and then the Mall of Asia the day after.
He said it was a "dream come true" to be able to say that he sold out the Mall of Asia Arena, and he celebrated by thanking his fans on an Instagram Live session Tuesday afternoon.
He also showed off the funny welcome gift he received --"Vicks VapoRub cupcakes." The gift harks back to one of his most popular jokes, about his mom trying to cure his pneumonia with the ointment when he was growing up as a kid in the US.
Jo Koy is best known for his quips about his mom, and is widely considered to be one of the top Asian stand-up comedians in the world, loved for speaking highly of his Filipino heritage in his acts.
Of being able to perform in Manila, he said: "I'm just happy to be home."
His Philippine performance is part of his "Just Kidding" world tour.
