Duterte twits Trillanes: 'Didn't you ask to be my VP?'

MANILA - The slashing remarks of Davao City Rodrigo Duterte have found a new target in Senator Antonio Trillanes.

Speaking to ABS-CBN News, Duterte insisted that Trillanes has no right to hurl criticisms against him, especially after he asked to become the mayor's running mate.

"Tama ka na, isa ka pa. Ambisyoso ka lang. Ikaw ang nauna ha, hindi ako. Siya ang unang nakipag-usap sa akin kung tatakbo akong presidente, tatakbo raw siya na vice [president]," Duterte said.

Duterte said Trillanes made the proposal at a hotel, when the local chief executive was still unsure of seeking the presidency.

Trillanes, who is supporting Duterte's presidential rival, Senator Grace Poe, recently branded as “rigged and invalid” the survey topped by the mayor.

Duterte got 38 percent of voter preference in the nationwide survey released by Social Weather Station (SWS) last week.

A total of 1,200 respondents were asked in the survey: "Ibang listahan naman po ang gamitin natin. Kasama dito si Rodrigo Duterte bilang isang substitute candidate sa Presidente. Sa mga sumusunod na pangalan sa listahang ito, sino po ang malamang ninyong iboboto bilang PRESIDENTE NG PILIPINAS, kung ang eleksyon ay gaganapin ngayon?"

Trillanes said the mention of Duterte's name in the survey was a violation of research protocol.

He also belittled the survey as a propaganda material released by Duterte and his running mate, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.

In the interview, Duterte told Trillanes to spare him from the "crusading hero" act he displayed during the 2003 Oakwood mutiny.

"Sumusobra rin ito. Just because you were a crusading hero, huwag mo naman lahatin... Isa ka pa, you are also a product of incongruity," Duterte ended his tirade. -- With a report from Eric Ayop, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao
