Lakas' Pichay backs Roxas

MANILA - For a second straight week, allies of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas have come out in the House of Representatives to support his possible bid for the presidency in 2016.

Surigao del Sur Rep. Philip Pichay, a member of Lakas, on Wednesday said he is backing Roxas because he has seen how the DILG secretary works and is convinced that he has the track record to continue President Aquino's "daang matuwid."

Pichay said he and his brother, former Congressman Prospero Pichay, a Lakas stalwart, will join the Liberal Party (LP).

"If Mar becomes president, it (daang matuwid) will continue. Mar is most qualified," Pichay said.

Pichay was joined in the press conference by other pro-Roxas congressmen: Antonio del Rosario, Rene Relampagos, Henry Teves, Damian Mercado, and Leo Cuevas.

Del Rosario and Relampagos, for their part, expressed preference for a Roxas-Senator Grace Poe tandem for next year's elections.

As this developed, other supporters of Roxas also met him for lunch today. These are the members of the so-called Mar Roxas bloc in Congress.
