Robredo will complement Duterte administration - analyst

MANILA - Incoming vice president Leni Robredo will complement the administration of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.

That's according to University of Santo Tomas (UST) political science professor Edmund Tayao, who sees a good working relationship between the Davao City mayor and the Camarines Sur congresswoman.

Duterte has shown openness to working with Robredo, possibly in the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Labor and Employment (DOLE), or Tourism (DOT), as the incoming administration continues efforts to finalize the official Cabinet.

Tayao said Robredo will surely make a difference.

"If the vice president-elect is just a Liberal Party (LP) member or therefore not a Leni Robredo, meaning that the defining factor is her being part of the outgoing administration party, then we can probably anticipate some kind of policy mismatch or conflict in terms of vision," Tayao said.

"But Leni Robredo is Leni Robredo, the same kind as the late Jesse Robredo, and so I'm inclined to think that this is also something that is taken note of the president-elect and the people working with the president-elect. Possibly, she would be able to provide more finesse in the way governance or decision-making is undertaken by the government," he added.

Meanwhile, Tayao is confident Robredo will not be affected by questions on the legitimacy of her victory, given her willingness to look into the electoral protest of her closest rival, Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
