MANILA - The Commission on Elections on Friday said public school teachers who rendered election day duties last May 9 will get paid soon.

Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista said the poll body has uploaded over P245 million in remaining poll wages to Landbank.

The money is for over 66,000 board of election inspectors (BEIs) and election support staff who have yet to receive the P4,500 honoraria and additional P500 in allowances.

Bautista cited several possible reasons for the delay of payment of teachers including failure to distribute prepaid cash cards to poll workers, cash cards not yet transacted with the banks, and unsuccessful transaction with Landbank ATMs or ebanking system.

The poll chied said 86 percent of the 476,004 election workers have already received their compensation either through ATMs, cash advances or prepaid cards.
