Sotto, Lacson no-show at proclamation of senatorial winners

MANILA - Incumbent Senator Vicente Sotto III and former Senator Panfilo Lacson were no-shows at the proclamation of the 12 winners of the 2016 senatorial race on Thursday.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec), which sits as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) for the senatorial and party-list polls, presented certificates of proclamation to the winning senatorial candidates at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

However, Sotto, who placed third with 17,200,371 votes, and Lacson, who was at fourth spot with 16,926,152 votes, were not present.

Lawyer Romulo Macalintal received in Sotto's behalf the celebrity-turned-senator's certificate of proclamation while former Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes received the former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief's certificate.

The 10 other winners of the senatorial elections are Franklin Drilon, Joel Villanueva, Richard Gordon, Miguel Zubiri, Manny Pacquiao, Francis Pangilinan, Risa Hontiveros, Sherwin Gatchalian, Ralph Recto, and Leila de Lima.
