Roxas: This is the fight of our lives

MANILA - Presidential candidate and former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas made his final pitch for the presidency as the campaign season draws to a close on Saturday.

Roxas' campaign had long centered on continuing the "Daang Matuwid" campaign of President Benigno Aquino III's administration.

It was the same "Daang Matuwid" campaign that catapulted then Senator Aquino to the presidency. However, Daang Matuwid's promise of continuity seemed to have lost its magic as it failed to boost Roxas' rankings in poll surveys.

Roxas has revised his mantra to "continuity with change", relishing the gains of the previous administration with promises of something better.

Speaking before thousands of supporters at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City, Roxas reveled in the achievements of the current administration.

In his speech, he reminded his supporters of what the Philippines has achieved during the Aquino administration's "Daang Matuwid."

No longer seeing the Daang Matuwid concept as the end but now rather as a tool, Roxas said the past six years are a foundation for a much better system of governance.

Midway in his speech, he also made a promise: "The best is yet to come."

"Pataas, maganda ang bukas sa Daang Matuwid. Nandito pa rin tayo. Malakas pa rin tayo. Mananalo tayo. Ipaglaban natin ang ating magandang bukas. This is the fight of our lives. This is a fight that defines us as a generation," Roxas said.

He urged his supporters to win this fight for the Filipino people.
