AFP launches National Election Monitoring Center

MANILA - The Philippine military on Tuesday launched a National Election Monitoring Center in Camp Aguinaldo to consolidate and coordinate information critical for the conduct of safe and fair elections.
Capt. Celeste Frank Sayson said that under Commission on Elections Resolution 10021, the Armed Forces of the Philippines is deputized to assist in the execution of free, honest, orderly and credible national and local elections on May 9.
The National Election Monitoring Center will utilize the AFP's information related capabilities to monitor the preparations for and the actual conduct of elections and the canvassing process.
It will also monitor election related violence specially in identified election watch areas and provide necessary data for decision making and execution of the Comelec and its deputized agencies.
Sayson said the center is capable of real time video conferencing via satellite and is linked to all military area commands.
