SORSOGON - Senator Grace Poe on Saturday expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court (SC) for affirming its decision declaring her qualified to seek the presidency in the May 9, 2016 elections.
Poe, who was in Sorsogon with her running mate, Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero, said the high court has given her justice.
Poe said now that the chains are finally off, she can focus on her campaign for the presidency.
"Malakas at tama ang desisyon ng SC. Kami ay nagpapasalamat sa hustisyang binigay nila," said Poe.
Asked about the possibility of her citizenship and residency issues resurfacing later on before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal if she wins the race, the senator said she is confident that her position will be just as strong.
In a resolution released today, the high court denied with finality all motions for reconsideration on its earlier ruling upholding Poe's candidacy for president.
It said magistrates, during the April 5 summer en banc session, maintained their 9-6 vote in favor of Poe's twin petitions against her disqualification by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
It ruled that the three MRs filed on the case "failed to present substantial arguments to warrant a reversal" of their decision issued on March 8 that the poll body committed grave abuse of discretion when it cancelled Poe's certificate of candidacy.
In its March 8 ruling, the SC said Poe, a foundling, is a natural-born Filipino and satisfied the 10-year minimum residency requirement.

Poe and Escudero met with mayors and barangay officials before attending a campaign rally in Sorsogon, which is the home province and bailiwick of the vice presidential candidate.
The tandem was joined by Sorsogon Governor Raul Lee in the campaign rally.
However, when asked if he was endorsing the tandem, Lee said that he is already retiring from politics and that his son, provincial administrator Robert Lee Rodriguez, who is running for the gubernatorial seat, should instead be asked.
In 2015, Lee's son transferred to the Liberal Party (LP) from the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA). Governor Lee was also seen welcoming administration standard bearer Mar Roxas in the province last year.
The governor, however, said today that Escudero is key in the family's endorsement. He said he is waiting for Escudero to ask them to carry Poe in Sorsogon as well.
