Sotto remains top senatorial bet: SWS


3 LP candidates among top 5 Senate bets

MANILA - Incumbent Senator Vicente Sotto III once again topped the pre-election survey of Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Among the top candidates vying for the 12 available Senate seats were five independents, five bets from the Liberal Party (LP), and one each from the Akbayan party-list group, Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) and the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

Sotto of the NPC continued to lead the pack with 53% .      

Former senator and independent candidate Panfilo Lacson ranked second with 46%.

Joining them in the top five were LP bets Senate President Franklin Drilon of the LP who got 44%; Sen. Ralph Recto , 43%; and former senator and food security presidential assistant Francis Pangilinan, 43%.

Completing the top 15 senatorial candidates are:

Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao - 38%
Sen. Sergio OsmeƱa III - 34%
Richard Gordon - 32%
Former Justice secretary Leila De Lima - 32%.

Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros - 30%
Sen. Teofisto Guingona III - 26%
Joel Villanueva - 24%
Former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Francis Tolentino - 23%
Valenzuela Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian - 21 %

The latest SWS poll entailed face-to-face interviews of 1,800 respondents nationwide with a margin of error of 2%.

It was conducted after the first presidential debate last February 20 and before the Supreme Court reversed the disqualification of presidential aspirant Senator Grace Poe.
