Sotto, Ping, Recto top SWS senatorial survey


MANILA – Incumbent senators Vicente Sotto III and Ralph Recto and former senator Panfilo Lacson topped the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey on senatorial candidates for 2016.

The BusinessWorld-SWS survey, conducted from February 5-7, showed Sotto getting 52%, Lacson 49% and Recto 46%.

Following the three Senate old-timers are:

Francis Pangilinan – Rank 4, 42%
Franklin Drilon – Rank 5, 40%
Juan Miguel Zubiri – Rank 6, 38%
Sergio OsmeƱa III – Rank 7, 37%

Sharing the 8th and 9th spots are Manny Pacquiao and Leila de Lima with 35%. They are followed by Risa Hontiveros at the 10th spot with 27%.

TG Guingona and Dick Gordon share the 11th and 12th spots with 26%.

Except for de Lima, the rest of those who made it to the Top 12 of the survey are either current or former members of Congress.

The February survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 validated voters, 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

It had sampling error margins of ±3% for national percentages, ±6% each for Metro Manila, Balance of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

''The area estimates were weighted by the 2016 Commission on Elections (Comelec) data on registered voters to obtain the national estimates,'' SWS said.

SWS noted that the Febraury survey is commissioned and is done on SWS' own initiative.

The list of candidates was based on the official Comelec list as of January 27, 2016.
