Duterte gov't to wipe out criminality in 6 months - Cayetano

MANILA - Vice presidential candidate Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Wednesday said he and presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will resign if they fail to wipe out drugs, criminality and corruption in the country six months after their election.

Speaking before students of the De La Salle University in a forum sponsored by Globe, Cayetano said he fully supports Duterte's plan to fix peace and order first so that an improved economy and inclusive growth can be achieved.

He said the Duterte-Cayetano tandem only needs three to six months to fulfill their promises.

If the Filipino people will not feel a sense of safety or any change in government services by that time, they will both step down from their posts, he said.

Cayetano said he will not take over Duterte's post should the latter make good his threat to resign if his campaign promise is not met.

The senator said this is because he trusts and respects the Davao City mayor.

Only their tandem showed up at the social media-charged forum on Wednesday. One candidate begged off while the rest backed out.

As usual, Duterte regaled his audience with his tough-talking style, but this time managed to lay off cussing.
