MANILA (UPDATED) -- ABS-CBN's "Harapan ng Bise: The ABS-CBN Vice Presidential Debate" has earned praise from netizens for its format that allowed the candidates to focus on presenting their platforms instead of attacking one another.

The "miting de avance" theme of the debate allowed senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Chiz Escudero, Antonio Trillanes IV, and Camarines Sur representative Leni Robredo to further explain their plans for the country.

Although they were invited, Senators Gringo Honasan and Bongbong Marcos were not able to attend the event because of scheduling conflicts.

The debate, which was moderated by Lynda Jumilla and Alvin Elchico, encouraged netizens to voice out their opinions through social media giants Facebook and Twitter.

For the first time since it started covering elections, ABS-CBN News used expansive social listening tools and analytics from social media, and integrated these with data visualization to inform its audience of concerns or subject matters citizens were tackling on digital platforms such as social networking sites, blogs, chat sites, and websites.

Though the data generated do not represent the entire Philippine population because more than half of Filipinos still do not go online or have no access to the Internet, these social listening reports and analytics are systematic enough to cover a wide range of conversations and public accounts by and of those who participate in digital interactions about Halalan 2016.

ABS-CBN News also worked with Facebook, which shared the summary of top issues and most talked about candidates.

Apart from the loud buzz on social media, the "Harapan ng Bise" also recorded a national TV rating of 21.4% according to Kantar Media.

It bested GMA 7's “24 Oras Weekend” and “Vampire ang Daddy,” which scored 10% and 13%, respectively.

It also won against GMA 7 in all key territories in the country, including Mega Manila, where it scored a 17.4% rating.

“Harapan ng Bise: The ABS-CBN Vice Presidential Debate” is part of ABS-CBN’s “Ipanalo Ang Pamilyang Pilipino” campaign, which encourages Filipinos to use their vote in upholding the interest and welfare of their families.

The intensity of election-related conversations on Facebook were shown on a "Heat Map", where the volume of interactions were represented with color gradient: the redder a place is, the more election-related conversations.

Netizens were also able to send questions for the candidates through the social media listening segment hosted by Bayan Mo, I-Patrol Mo ambassador Gretchen Ho.
