MANILA - Aika Robredo, the eldest daughter of Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, is set to resign from work to fully concentrate on her mother's national campaign as the vice presidential candidate of the Liberal Party (LP).

Aika is currently the executive assistant of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Executive Director Alexander Pama.

Among the three Robredo sisters, Aika said she is the one who will play an active role in the campaign of their mother.

She noted that their youngest sister Jillian, who is still in high school, and Tricia, who is in medical school, will have to concentrate on their studies.

Aika admitted that she and her siblings initially opposed the idea of their mother running for higher office, noting that she is a single mother who also needs time, energy and guidance.

But in the end, the example and memory of their late father, former Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, prevailed on them that he would want them to also sacrifice for the sake of the country.

Aika revealed that before their mother's announcement of her vice presidential bid last Monday, President Benigno Aquino III, LP standard bearer Mar Roxas and Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman talked to them about continuing the family tradition of true public service as exemplified by their father.

Aika said they also had dinner with Roxas and his wife, Korina Sanchez, last Friday.

She, however, clarified that although there was a lot of pressure from supporters and friends who wanted their mother to accept the party's nomination, it was the whole family who collectively decided in the end based on the principles and beliefs of their late father Jesse.
