MANILA - Saying that it all boils down to "political will," the tandem of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte and Senate Majority leader Alan Peter Cayetano today vowed to build a "strong and corruption-free Philippine economy."

In a forum organized on Tuesday by the Joint-Foreign Chambers of the Philippines (JFC), a coalition of the American, Australian-New Zealand, Canadian, European, Japanese, Korean Chambers, and PAMURI, Cayetano said his partnership with Duterte is the best tandem that can address the country's disorder.

If elected in the May 9 polls, he said their government will be a reliable partner of the business sector.

"Every candidate will come up with a motherhood economic strategy, dazzling everyone with platforms and promises but ultimately you only need one thing: political will to get things done," Cayetano said.

"Mayor Duterte and I will create an atmosphere conducive for business to thrive. Under our watch, the government will not be a source of disorder. At the end of the day, we want lasting and effective solutions to poverty, joblessness, and hunger," he added.

The Duterte-Cayetano tandem said that as part of their plan to build a strong economy, they will wage a 24/7 war against crime, illegal drugs and corruption. The duo will also push for federalism to spur regional economic development and promote equality under the law.

"Building a strong and corrupt-free economy is a daunting task. This can't be done by a candidate who can't even talk about corruption and will only bring us back to the days of corrupt administrations. This also can't be done by candidate who represents the current government that has done good things but has miserably failed to provide bold solutions to solve the people's daily struggles," Cayetano stressed.

Duterte and Cayetano said that Davao and Taguig are their "Exhibit A and B" when it comes to business governance. The duo said that in Davao, the business sector is assured that processing of permits will be complete in 3 days. Taguig topped the Civil Service Commission's (CSC) anti-red tape test.

"The people need leaders with a clear vision, political will and strength of character to put forward bold and swift solutions to address pressing economic concerns. This is what Mayor Duterte and I are offering this election," Cayetano said.
