Gonzales-Romualdez is the mayor-elect of Tacloban City, where she served as a councilor for three terms. She is married to Alfred Romualdez, outgoing mayor of Tacloban City and a nephew of Imelda Marcos.

Gonzales-Romualdez's husband is a first cousin of Bongbong Marcos, who is currently in a neck-and-neck contest for the vice presidency with Robredo.

In her apology posted on Facebook, Gonzales-Romualdez said that she does not approve of her daughter's remarks. She also asked for understanding, saying her daughter is only 16 years old and may not be aware of the consequences of her actions.

"In behalf of my daughter Sofia, I apologize for such words she tweeted about Leny (sic)," Gonzales-Romualdez said.
