MBC welcomes 'credible' elections
MANILA - The Makati Business Club (MBC) on Tuesday welcomed the outcome of the 2016 national and local elections, saying it is ready to cooperate with the new government.
The group called on the public to support the new leaders and focus on achieving the goal of inclusive growth.
"Propelling the country to greater heights requires the cooperation of all sectors of society. On the part of the business community, we welcome the clear mandate given our new leaders by our people and the credibility of the elections, and we stand ready to be an active and participative partner of government in ensuring sustainable and inclusive growth that benefits not just a select few but all Filipinos," it said in a statement.
"It is our hope that the 2016 elections bring forth a country grounded on the principles of protecting and strengthening our democratic institutions, and on decency, integrity, justice, empathy, competence, peace and order especially in Mindanao, and respect for the rule of law," the group added.
The MBC also lauded the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for a "credible, clean, and honest" national and local elections.
The group said, despite glitches and challenges during election day, Comelec was able to address the issues efficiently.
"The Commission on Elections deserves much appreciation for its management of a process, seen by many as highly credible, clean, and honest," the group said.
The MBC also commended losing candidates for conceding early to the apparent winners as well the apparent winners who showed humility in victory.
