MANILA – Another Filipina teenager has made it to a popular singing competition in the United States.

Katriz Trinidad, 15, successfully passed the blind auditions of The Voice USA, making three judges turn their chairs with her rendition of an Etta James classic, "At Last".

"I never thought that I would find something that I'd usually look for my own label; that I'd been dreaming for an artist like you all my career," said Pharrell Williams. "Just remember these words: I want you on my team so bad and I've never done this. I'm on my knee."

Aside from Williams, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton were also impressed with Trinidad's performance.

"All of us, at the back of our minds, keep the hope alive that somehow we’ll find someone who was born to be a star and I really think you could be that person. You're so different. You deserve to win this thing," said Shelton.

For her part, Stefani said Trinidad is almost like a "perfect singer."

"You started of soft and controlled and then you hit a note that was so beautiful and it was just mind blowing. And to find out that it’s from a 15-year-old voice, it’s hard to really take it all in," Stefani said.

To further convince her to pick him, Williams wrote the word 'Please' on his notebook.

The teenager from San Diego eventually chose to be under Team Pharrell.

"I really thought that Pharrell spoke to me the most because he truly believed in me. I saw it in his eyes. He went on his knees for me and he wrote 'please' on his notebook which I thought was awesome because that's Pharrell," Trinidad said.

The self-confessed soul and R&B fan said she looks up to Beyonce, Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Alicia Keys for inspiration.

“It was definitely nerve-wracking before I went there but I was able to find my place on that stage and I was able to breath. I was able to push through and I impressed the judges. I got three of the judges who turned around for me which was Gwen, Blake and Pharrell,” Trinidad said.

The Pinay believes she did well during the blind auditions.

“I'm definitely happy and proud of myself that I just got on the team. I'm just gonna wait and see how it goes,” she said.

Aside from Trinidad, another teen Filipina, Marlisa Punzalan, is one of the contestants of another reality singing competition, X Factor Australia.

Punzalan is currently in the show's Top 5.
