MANILA, Philippines – There is a demand in some parts of Germany for nurses and caretakers because of the rising population of the country’s elderly.
New ambassador to Germany Maria Cleofe Natividad said that her priority is increasing the job and investment opportunities for Filipinos.
In October, she will begin exploratory talks for recruitment of Filipina nurses and caretakers in Germany.
Some hospitals in Stuttgart have announced that they need more nurses, specially those who can already speak German.
Natividad also said that there is demand in the country for call center agents as part of their business process outsourcing.
Philippine Economic Zone Authority Director-General Lilia de Lima is also set to visit Berlin to seek more foreign investors.
Germany is the 5th biggest investor in the Philippines.
Natividad said the role of heads of diplomatic missions had increased under the Aquino government. They are now tasked to seek more investors for the country.
This is in answer to the mandate of Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario to heads of any foreign post, who are now asked to make at least one business call a day to help the Philippine economy. With a report from Danny Buenafe, ABS-CBN News Europe
